Abstract:Objective To explore the effect comparison of intra-articular injection of tranexamic acid ( TXA) and intrave-nous infusion on the blood loss after total knee arthroplasty ( TKA).Methods A retrospective study was performed on 64 cases of patients with knee osteoarthritis received TKA in the General Hospital of Shenyang Military Command from Jan-uary2013 to January 2014 .Due to the TXA control method ,patients were divided into the intravenous infusion group ( Group A) and the intra-articular injection group ( Group B) ,with 32 cases in each group .The volume of drainage and total blood loss after TKA between both groups were analyzed .Results The total blood loss in Group B (640.0 ±35.4 ) ml was sig-nificantly less than that in Group A ( 978.0 ± 57.8 ) ml, there was significant difference between the two groups ( P <0.01).The postoperative volume of drainage was (514.5 ±21.0) ml in Group A and(411.9 ±32.7)ml in Group B,there was no significant difference ( P>0.05 ) .Both groups of patients had no postoperative complication such as lower extremity deep vein thrombosis .Conclusion The single dose intra-articular injection of tranexamic acid is better than intravenous in-fusion for hemostasis after TKA without increasing risk for venous thrombosis .
