Abstract:Open abdomen(OA)therapy exerts a remarkable effect in the treatment of severe abdominal diseases, yet it may induce enteroatmospheric fistula(EAF),which is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates.Enteral nutrition(EN),an important nutritional therapeutic modality, supplies nutrients via the physiological gastrointestinal tract. It can maintain the integrity of intestinal barrier function and improve the immune status of pa-tients.A growing number of studies have demonstrated that EN exerts long-term positive effects in patients with EAF.This paper reviews the pathogenesis of EAF secondary to OA and points out the relevant risks associated with long-term parenteral nutrition. It further explores the clinical application of EN in patients with EAF.Finally, the strategies for EN therapy in these patients are summarized, and the importance of nutritional support for such patients is emphasized, aiming to provide a reference for clinical nutritional treatment.
