Abstract:Post-traumatic osteoarthritis(PTOA)is a degenerative joint disease caused by traumatic injuries such as fractures, dislocations, ligamentous injuries or repeated joint injuries. It is characterized by progressive de-struction of the articular cartilage, sclerosis of the subchondral bone, formation of bone redundancy, and synovial in-flammation,which ultimately leads to joint dysfunction and chronic pain. The pathogenesis of PTOA involves the in-teraction of mechanical injury, inflammatory immunity, subchondral bone remodeling, and oxidative stress.Although some progress has been made in the research of PTOA,its complex pathogenesis and irreversible joint destruction are challenging during its management. Therefore, this paper reviews the current progress on the pathogenesis of PTOA to provide reference for further research and potential treatment strategies.
