Kirschner wire techniques for proximal and middle phalangeal fractures
Nie Guangchen
Abstract:Proximal and middle phalangeal fractures are common hand injuries, and the treatment outcomes directly impact the hand functional recovery and patients'quality of life.Among numerous surgical fixation methods,Kirschner wire(K-wire)fixation plays a significant role in clinical practice due to its effective stabilization, minimal invasion, and cost-effectiveness.This review aims to systematically examine the current application and advantages of K-wire techniques in the treatment of proximal and middle phalangeal fractures. After briefly outlining the histori-cal development of K-wires and analyzing the limitations of traditional K-wire fixations, this review primarily focuses on recent modifications to K-wire designs and fixation techniques based on anatomical approaches and biomechanical features. The technical innovations, biomechanical advantages, and clinical application values are further analyzed, aiming to provide clinicians with a reference for more rational and optimized selection and application of K-wire fixa-tion in the treatment of proximal and middle phalangeal fractures.
