Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features and identify prognostic factors of patients in Southwest china with open globe injuries(OGI).Methods A retrospective study was performed on 293 OGI cases treated in the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University from Dec.2019 to Dec.2021.Data on gender, age, occupation, initial and final vision acuity, and other relative information of the patients were collected and ana-lyzed.Results The majority of patients were male(83.3%),with the highest incidence in the 40-50 years age group(24.6%).The predominant occupations affected were workers(43.7%)and farmers(38.6%),with metal being the most common cause of OGI across all occupation groups. The most frequent injury type was penetrating(37.2%),and the most affected area was zone Ⅱ(the scleral area within 5 mm behind the limbus,41.3%).The final visual acuity was found to be positively associated with the injury zone and initial visual acuity,(r=0.365,P<0.001;r=0.680,P<0.001)and negatively with the time of hospital visit and the ocular trauma score post-injury.(r=-0.117,P=0.046;r=-0.637,P<0.001).Conclusion Male gender, workers and farmers, and the 40-50 years age group are the most affected population of OGI.The final visual outcome is significantly influenced by the injury zone, initial visual acuity, and the severity and timing of management after OGI.
