Animal-related injuries in China:a literature analysis from the year 2013 to 2023

Abstract:Objective To summarize the epidemiological characteristics of animal-related injuries in Chi-na,and to provide a basis for its prevention and control.Methods The literature published from Jan.1st,2013 to Dec.31th,2023 in CNKI,Wanfang Data,VIP Data and Chaoxing Journals were searched with the key words"动物伤害""动物致伤""狂犬病""流行病学".The information of gender,age,occupation,injury place,attac-king animals,etc.was collected.Data collation was conducted by 3 experienced physicians and analyzed by Excel.Results A total of 119 articles from 23 provinces/autonomous regions/centrally administered municipalities were included,including 2,049,861 patients injured by animals.Among them,1,943,187 cases recorded gender,of which 52.2%were males;772,416 cases recorded age,with the 20-29 years group accounting for the largest pro-portion(20.9%);365 420 cases recorded occupations,with the largest number of staff(41.4%),followed by students(18.7%),and the smallest number of individuals(1.3%);1,043,311 cases recorded the injury month,with the top three being July(11.5%),August(11.3%),and June(10.9%);45,388 cases recorded the injury place,with 71.4%in urban areas and 28.6%in rural areas;760,713 cases recorded the attacking animals,with dogs accounting for 67.0%,followed by cats(23.7%);998,035 cases recorded the injury region,with the upper limbs being the most frequent involved(52.7%);714,570 cases recorded the rabies exposure level,with the most being grade Ⅱ(56.0%);225,486 cases recorded the treatment after rabies exposure,with 87.0%patients re-ceived standardized management,6.4%with no management and 6.6%with unstandardized management;29,482 cases recorded the tetanus exposure management,with the marjourity of cases having no unrecorded tetanus preven-tion measures(70.2%).Conclusion In China,animal-related injuries have been a national-wide all-population public health problem.Its prevention and treatment are hard and need more attention,especially the prevention of tetanus after exposure.
