Clinical application of superficial temporal artery fascial flap combined with free skin grafting to repair partial defect of auricle

Abstract:Objective To summarize the clinical efficacy of repairing partial auricle defects with superficial temporal artery fascial flap and free skin grafting.Methods Four patients suffered from partial auricular defects and cartilage exposure in Xianyang Central Hospital from Jan.2012 to Mar.2017.There were 3 males and 1 fe-male.The youngest of them was 19 years old,the oldest was 35,and the average age was 28.0.Among them,one was bitten,one was wounded by knife ,and two were injured in traffic accidents.Three of them were left ear injury , one was right.The wound range was from 1cm×1cm to 3cm×1cm,with an average of 1.2cm×1.0cm.After surgi-cal debridement thoroughly ,the superficial temporal artery fascia flap combined with free skin grafts was used to cov-er the defect of the auricle.Results All of the operations were completed successfully.The wounds healed at the first stage and the flaps survived.All patients were followed up for 6 to 12 months,with an average of 8 months.Au-ricle defect surface was repaired without infection and no cartilage exposure .Patients were satisfied with the shape of the reconstructed ears.Conclusion The application of superficial temporal artery fascia flap combined with free skin grafting for the repair of partial auricle defect can effectively restore the shape of the auricle .The donor site is basically invisible and the scar is concealed.It has good clinical application value.
