Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical effect of minimally invasive pedicle screw(MIPS)fixation combined with percutaneous vertebroplasty(PVP)surgeries in treatment of type A3.1 thoracolumbar burst fractures of aged patients. Methods Twenty patients(7 males and 13 females with an average age of 55.2(50-65)years) with thoracolumbar fractures and meeting the operation conditions in our hospital from Jan.2014 to Sep.2016 were selected. All patients were performed MIPS fixation combined with PVP.The VAS,Cobb angles and spinal canal encroachment ratio were observed before and after operation. Results The patients were followed up for an average of 22 months. There was no internal fixation failure or adjacent vertebral body fracture. The mean VAS was signifi-cantly decreased from 8 before surgery to 3 at 2 days after surgery and 2 at 1-year follow-up.The Cobb angle was (17.6 ±9.6)°before surgery and(4.3 ±2.5)°at 2 days after surgery and(4.5 ±2.8)°at 1-year follow-up. The spinal canal encroachment rate was(25.2 ±3.6)%before surgery and(9.7 ±2.9)%at 2 days after sur-gery and(8.4 ±2.6)% at 1-year follow-up.There was statistical significance(P>0.05)between preoperation and postoperation while no statistical significance between groups. Conclusion MIPS combined with PVP is a fea-sible option in the treatment of type A3.1 thoracolumbar burst fracture. It appears to be effective in achieving satis-fied restoration and strengthening fracture body which can prevent body height loss.
