Abstract:Three-dimensional ( 3D) printing is a developing technology and firstly used in the industrial field.Recently,it gains a lot of attention in the medical field for its potential benefits .Since its introduction to the medical field in the late 1980s,with the 3D printing technology, digital imaging and communication in medicine (DI-COM) can be translated into stereo lithography ( STL) files.Finally,3D anatomical structures such as vessels , tumors, and skulls are printed ,which enable surgeons to improve pre-operative planning .Due to the infancy of the field, and a wide range of technologies with varying advantages and disadvantages ,there is currently no standard 3D printing process for clinical and medical research .To enable craniofacial trauma doctor to optimize the use of this technology,we outline the variable clinical practical methods and design software for 3D printing under the assistance of computer in the surgical field ,especially in the field of craniofacial trauma .
