Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effects of distal tibia epiphyseal fracture with hollow screws in children. Methods From Jan.2014 to Feb.2016,32 children with displaced distal tibia epiphyseal frac-ture were treated with hollow screws with closed and open reduction fixation .There were 21 males and 11 females, with an average age of 9.4 years (ranged,3 to 14 years). There were 26 cases of falling injury,3 cases of high falls injury, and 3 cases of road traffic injury .The treatment outcomes were assessed using Teeny functional criteria a-round the ankle joint. Results All the patients were followed up for a mean time of 7.6 months(range,4 to 15 months).Bone healing was achieved in 32 cases, within an average healing time of 11 weeks(range,8 to 12weeks). No premature epiphyseal closure ,no tibial crispation or deformity was observed in X-ray films.According to Teeny criteria:the results were excellent in 29 eases and good in 3 cases with an excellent and good rate of 100%.Con-clusion Hollow screws for treating distal tibial epiphyseal fracture in children can achieve satisfactory effects ,which is an effective and ideal method .
