Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of combined fixation ( kirschner wire , AO tension band, cerclage wire, absorbable suture) in the treatment of comminuted fracture of patella .Methods A retrospec-tive analysis was conducted in 32 patients with comminuted fracture of patella who were admitted into our hospital from Jun.2010 to May 2015.There were 20 males and 12 females, with an average age of 44.5 years ( range,19 to 65).Ten cases were injured on the left side ,and 22 cases on the right side.Injury causes included 10 cases of fall-ing,15 cases of road traffic injury ,and 7 cases of high falling .All patients were treated through open reduction and internal fixation with kirschner wire ,AO tension band ,cerclage wire and absorbable suture .Results All of the 32 patients were followed up from 12 months to 28 months (on average of 19.5 months). All patients obtained good fracture union. The B?stman standard showed excellent in 16 cases, good in 12 cases and poor in 4 cases, with an excellent and good rate of 87.5%.Conclusion The combined fixation of kirschner wire , AO tension band , cer-clage wire and absorbable suture in the treatment of patients with comminuted fracture of patella is a reliable fixation technique ,which can obtain full knee motion ,reduce postoperative complications and have good curative effect .
