Modified Bosworth method combined with Pulvertaft suture to treat the fresh closed torn Achilles tendon rupture

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of modified Bosworth method combined with Pulvertaft suture to treat the fresh closed torn Achilles tendon rupture. Methods Data of 15 patients (27-50 years, 36 on average) with fresh closed torn Achilles tendon rupture was retrospectively analyzed,who were admitted from Sep.2011 to Mar.2015 in Department of Orthopedics of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.Among them 12(feet) were males(7 were on the left and 5 were on the right) and 3(feet) were females(one were on the left and 2 were on the right). Results All patients were followed up for 6 to 12 months with an average of 8.6 months.Two cases developed postoperative wound swelling,who achieved grade B healing after anti-infection and dressing treatment,and the remaining wound achieved grade A healing.All patients had no postoperative foot lateral sensory numbness.According to Arner Lindholm standard assessment,there was excellent in 13 cases,good in 2 cases,and the excellent and good rate was 100%. Conclusion Modified Bosworth method combined with Pulvertaft suture for treating fresh closed torn Achilles tendon rupture can obtain good postoperative functional recovery,and its clinical efficacy is satisfactory.
