Comparison of effect of the TINMI and double plates in the treatment of extra-articular proximal tibial fractures

Abstract：Objective To compare the curative effect of TINMI and double plates in the treatment of extra-articular proximal tibial fractures .Methods Eighty patients of extra-articular proximal tibial fractures were collect-ed in our hospital from Mar.2009 to Jul.2014.They were randomly divided into two groups according to different internal fixation:the TINMI group and the plate group.The operation time,intraoperative blood loss,intraoperative fluoroscopy,time of fracture healing,part weight-bearing time,full weight-bearing time,excellent and good rate and postoperative complications were evaluated .Results Patients of two groups were followed-up for more than 1 year. There was no significant difference in operation time , intraoperative blood loss , intraoperative fluoroscopy and part weight-bearing time between the two groups ( P>0.05 ) .The fracture healing time and full weight-bearing time of the TINMI group were less than those of the plate group ( P<0.05 ) .The excellent and good rates of the TINMI group and the plate group were 82.9% and 62.2% respectively .The difference was statistically significant ( P<0.05).The postoperative complication rates of the TINMI group and the plates group were 14.3%and 24.4%re-spectively.The difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05).Conclusion The surgical procedure com-plexity degree of TINMI and double plates was similar .However ,TINMI had advantages of short fracture healing time and full weight-bearing time ,high excellent and good rate and few postoperative complications .It was worthy to be pro-moted.
