Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and discuss the surgical techniques of minimally in-vasive plate osteosynthesis ( MIPO) via deltoid approach for treatment of greater tuberosity fractures of humerus . Methods Fifteen cases of comminuted displaced humeral greater tuberosity fracture underwent surgical procedure in our department from Jun 2011 to Jun 2014.There were 9 males and 6 females, with a mean age of 41.3 years. All the patients were treated with MIPO via deltoid approach .Surgical time, intraoperative blood loss were measured , and fracture healing time and postoperative functional outcomes were evaluated during follow -ups.Results The mean surgical time was 52.5 min(45-90 min) ,the mean intraoperative blood loss was 80.3mL(60-110 mL),and the average hospital stay was 7.2 days(5-12 days). All the patients obtained an average follow-up of 16.3 months (10 to 26 months) .The average fractures healing time was 6.5 months (4 to 8 months),1 case suffered from surgi-cal wound infection .According to Neer score system for evaluating shoulder function ,the average score was 88.7 ± 4.5(78-94).The function was excellent in 9 cases, good in 4 cases, fair in 2 cases, and the satisfactory rate was 88.7%.The mean score of VAS(visual analogue scale) was 0.8 (0-3).Conclusion Good outcomes for treating comminuted displaced humeral grater turberosity fracture can be achieved under MIPO via deltoid approach .It is minimally invasive, reliable, satisfactory with few complications .
