Clinical analysis of 36 cases of traumatic endophthalmitis

Abstract:Objective To study the cause of endophthalmitis and the therapeutic effects on traumatic en-dophthalmitis .Methods Clinical data of 36 cases ( 36 eyes ) of traumatic endophthalmitis admitted from Jan . 2011 to Dec.2015 was retrospectively analyzed .Among them 34 were male and 2 were female with ages ranged from 3 to 72 ( average, 46.2) years old.They were followed up for 1-36 (average, 9.8)months.Results A-mong the 36 cases ( 36 eyes ) of traumatic endophthalmitis , 22 cases ( 22 eyes ) had intraocular foreign bodies . Twenty-five cases (25 eyes) were performed with vitrectomy , 10 cases (10 eyes) underwent debridement suture combined with intravitreal injection , and 1 case (1 eye) underwent eye enucleation .The postoperative visual acui-ties of patients increased in various degrees .Ten patients ( 27.8%) were saved from blindness ( best-corrected visual acuity ≥0.05).Conclusion The early diagnosis and treatment is important for patients with endophthalmi-tis, and vitreous chamber injection or vitrectomy can help the patients to recover the visual function effctively .
