Clinical observation of using titanium elastic nails for the treatment of forearm fractures in children

Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical effect of titanium elastic nails ( TEN) in the treatment of forearm fracture in children .Methods The clinical data of 48 cases of children with forearm fractures treated by internal fixation with the help of “C arm” X-ray machine and the application of TEN from Jun .2010 to Feb.2015 in our departmen was reviewed .The operation , the fracture healing and the incidence of postoperative complications were analyzed.Results All the patients were followed up for 6 to 56 months,with an average of 26 months.All fractures healed within 3 to 10 months (average,5 months).The average duration to take out the internal fixation was 5 months.Neither infection nor joint dysfunction occurred .Two cases of fracture had delayed union ,but no non-union happened .Three cases with malunion and angle less than 10 degrees did not receive any special treatment . Conclusion TEN is the first choice for the treatment of forearm fracture in children ,and it has achieved good clini-cal results with strict indications of surgical treatment .
