Combined application of internal and external fixation for unstable pelvic fractures

Abstract：Objective To explore the application and effect of open reduction and internal fixation com -bined with external fixator in the treatment of unstable pelvic fractures .Methods Twenty-nine cases of unstable pelvic fractures from Dec.2003 to Dec.2013 were retrospectively analyzed,including 18 males and 11 females. Their age ranged from 18 to 57 years,with an average of 32.5 years.The unstable pelvic fractures were treated by open reduction and internal fixation combined with external fixation .Results All the patients were followed up for 6-18 months,and all 29 cases achieved bony healing .According to Majeed score ,18 cases were excellent ,8 cases were good and 3 cases were fair .Conclusion Open reduction and internal fixation combined with external fixation is an effective method for the treatment of unstable pelvic fractures .
