Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of endobutton fixation for old inferior tibiofibular joint instability. Methods From Jan.2011 to Jan.2013,23 cases of old inferior tibiofibular joint instability were treated by the endobutton elastic fixation .There were 19 males and 4 females in this study ,with an average age of (38.4 ±5.1)years(range 33-47).Surgery were operated on the medial malleolus and the inferior tibiofibular joint space after debridement , using two endobuttons for the tibiofibular syndesmosis fixation . Follow-up was evaluated with the ankle function score of American Orthopaedic Foot&Ankle Society ( AOFAS) for postoperative efficacy e-valuation.Results The patients were followed up from 7 to 27 months with an average of (15 ±5.8)months.The patients were followed up from 7 to 27 months with an average of (15 ±5.8) months.Ankle fractures were healed , with an average healing time of (10.5 ±3.5) weeks (range from 10 to 18 weeks).Re-examination of X-ray and CT indicated good tibial joint clearance at the 3rd day,2 months and 6 months after operation .No displacement of implant,re-separation of the inferior tibiofibular joint ,infection of incision, poor healing and complications such as venous thrombosis were found .Pre-operative AOFAS score ( 65.23 ±14.45 ) and postoperative scores ( 87.37 ± 12.58) points were obviously improved and had significant difference (P<0.05).Conclusion Endobutton fixa-tion for old inferior tibiofibular joint instability is good for patients with early rehabilitation and clinical curative effect is satisfied.
