Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical application of free-hand technique with electromagnetic computer-assisted guidance system in distal locking of tibial intramedullary nail. Methods Forty patients with tibi-al fracture who were admitted from Jan.2013 to Dec.2014 and required to apply intramedullary nailing were ana-lyzed and divided into two groups, with 20 cases in each group.Electromagnetic navigation group: there were 11 males and 9 females, aged from 20 to 65 years with an average of (44.3 ±1.8) years.Free-hand locking group:there were 12 males and 8 females, aged from 18 to 66 years with an average of (42.5 ±2.0) years. The distal loc-king time and intraoperative radiation exposure time were recorded and compared between the two groups. Results The mean distal locking time was (668.2 ±195.0)s in the electromagnetic navigation group, while was (1431.1 ±501.3)s in the free-hand locking group. The mean intraoperative radiation exposure time was (3.1 ±2.2)s in the electromagnetic navigation group, while was (18.3 ±6.9) s in the free-hand locking group. Conclusion The electromagnetic computer-assisted guidance system significantly reduces the distal locking time and the radiation ex-posure,which is worth of clinical application.
