Treatment of fracture of the base of the first metacarpal with pressurized bone screws

Abstract：Objective To explore the operation method and the clinical curative effect of the treatment of fracture of the base of the first metacarpal with pressurized bone screws.Methods Thirty-six patients with the fracture of base of the first metacarpal were treated by the fixation with pressurized bone screws.The function of the first metacarpal,pains,thumb pinch strength and grip strength were evaluated after operation.Results Thirty-four patients were followed up,with time ranged from 4 to 12 months.X ray examination indicated bone healing in all fractures.There was no statistical difference in the aspects of thumb pinch,grip strength,total active motion(TAM) and abduction angle.Conclusion Using pressurized bone screws is a simple and effective method for treating the fracture of the base of the first metacarpal.
