Abstract:Objective To investigate and analyze epidemiological characteristics of achilles tendon injury in our district and to make appropriate recommendations on how to prevent and improve therapeutic levels.Meth-ods A total of 126 cases of achilles tendon rupture were studied.Database was founded on the basis of the follow-ing factors including injury causes, associated injuries and their management, admission date, admission time,compli-cations,prognosis and epidemiological characteristics. Results In these cases, the toilet tiles injury accounted for 50.79%(64/126),work accident injury accounted for 33.33%(42/126),and wheel twisted injury accounted for 11.11%(14/126).The majority of admissions happened in July and September. However, the toilet tiles injury mostly occurred in April and June.Admission period was mostly concentrated between 15∶00 on the same day to 1∶00 on the next day, accounting for 71.43%(90/126).Admissions from 9∶00 to 11∶00 accounted for 9.52%(12/126).There were 112 cases followed up for an average of 42 months(3 months-75 months).According to Ar-ner-Lindholm evaluation system, the treatment outcome was excellent in 98 cases and good in 13,with the excellent and good rate of 99.11%.During the follow-up period, the re-rupture rate was 5.36%(6/112),the overall infec-tion rate was 6.25%(7/112) and the infection rate of toilet tiles injury was 10.71%(6/56).Conclusion The split toilet tiles were the main causes of achilles tendon rupture in our department and most of the patients were in-jured during shower in hot and humid months, and infections also often occurred in these patients. It is a fundamen-tal and effective way for reducing such damage to change or improve the traditional pattern of the shower and toilet in the same room in southern China.
