Abstract:Objective To observe the safety and effectiveness of double Kirschner needle application in percutaneous fixation for comminuted fractures of distal tibia. Methods Between Mar.2009 and Mar.2012,100 patients with comminuted fractures of distal tibia whose AO classification were Type C were treated with minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis( MIPPO) ,and their clinical data were retrospectively analyzed.Patients in group A(50 cases) were operated with double Kirschner needle method and patients in group B(50 cases) were operated with conventional method. There was no significant difference in gender, age, cause of injury, type of frac-tures,and time from injury to operation between the 2 groups(P>0.05).The operation time, bleeding volume,frac-ture healing time, and incidence of complications were compared between the 2 groups. Results The operation time in group A was shorter than that of group B.Bleeding volumes and the incidence of complications in group A were less than those in group B( P<0.05) .The difference of fracture healing time between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion It is safe and effective to use double Kirschner needle method in MIPPO.Double Kirschner needle method can shorten the operation time and reduce the incidence of complications.
