Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical value of spiral CT volume scan in the diagnosis of thorax bone fractures. Methods A retrospective analysis of the clinical data of 80 cases [49 males and 31 females aged from 22-76 years with an average age of (40.2 ±2.3)years] of patients diagnosed of thoracic bone and rib fracture in our department from Jan.2011 to Jun.2014 was carried out.All cases had complete X-ray,3D images and axial CT scan image data.X-ray,3D images and diagnostic results of axial CT scan images were analyzed. Results Af-ter suspicious fractures were excluded, with axial CT scan images as the gold standard, diagnostic sensitivity of X-ray was 61.54%with a specificity of 66.67% and diagnostic sensitivity of 3D volume rendering(VR) was 98.59%with a specificity of 87.50%.Conclusion Spiral CT can quickly confirm thoracic bone and rib fractures.VR, maximum intensity projection( MIP) and multiplanar reconstruction method( MPR) technology can effectively dem-onstrate slight fracture with strong advantage in anatomical structure.
