Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical efficacy of locking plate fixation and expandable intra-me-dullary nail fixation for fracture of humeral shaft .Methods Between Feb.2008 and Dec.2011,56 cases of hu-meral shaft fractures were treated with expandable intra-medullary nail fixation (35 cases ) and locking plate fixation (21 cases). The operative time, blood loss, healing time, joint functional recovery and complication were compared between the two groups .Results The operative time ,intra-operative blood loss and healing time in the expandable intra-medullary nail fixation group were significantly greater than those in the locking plate fixation group ,indicating significant differences .But there was no remarkable difference in the function recovery between the two groups . The incidence of complications was higher in the plate fixation group than that in the expandable intra -medullary nail fixation group ,however ,no statistical difference was observed .Conclusion The two fixed methods for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures both can achieve good clinical results , but the intra-medullary nail fixation is a better choice because of relatively shorter time and less blood loss and complications .
