Abstract:Lower respiratory tract infections(LRTIs)are characterized by a high global incidence and mortality rate, involving a complex and diverse range of pathogens,in which lead to varying clinical outcomes. The rapid and accurate identification of these pathogens is crucial for diagnosing and making clinical decisions in cases of LRTIs.Next-generation sequencing(NGS)has become an indispensable adjunct to traditional pathogenic microorganism detection methods, and has played a pivotal role in precise clinical diagnosis and antibiotic treatment. This study presents a comprehensive review of the technical advantages, application scenarios, and reliability of results from metagenomic next-generationsequencing(mNGS)and targeted next-generation sequencing(tNGS),aiming to enhance our understanding of the technical features of NGS and to maximize the diagnostic value in a scientifically rigorous manner.
