Abstract:Objective To study the epidemiological characteristics and treatment outcomes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis(MTB)/human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)dual infection in Jingzhou,Hubei Province. Methods The data of HIV infected individuals registered in Hubei from 2012 to 2021 were exported through the Chinese Disease Prevention and Control Information System, and the dual infection status with MTB was analyzed. The demographic characteristics and treatment outcomes of individuals dual infected with MTB and HIV were analyzed.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to identify the factors influencing treatment outcomes. Results A total of 28,132 HIV patients were followed up in a region from 2012 to 2021,with 107 cases of MTB detected. The detection rate was 0.38%,and the detection rate of MTB showed a fluctuating downward trend(z=-3.612,P=0.001).Among the 107 patients with MTB/HIV dual infection, the majority were male(76.64%),aged between 18 and 45(56.07%),of Han ethnicity(82.24%),and primarily farmers(43.93%).Additionally,71.03%were unmarried,64.49%were smokers, and 48.60%were drinkers. All 107 MTB/HIV dual infected patients adhered to anti-tuberculosis and anti-viral treatments.Of these,20 cases were cured of MTB and 62 cases completed the course of treatment. The treatment success rate was 76.64%(82/107),while the treatment failure rate was 23.36%(25/107).Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression analyses showed that receiving care at a municipal-level institution, having other forms of tuberculosis, and having severe disease were all risk factors for treatment failure in MTB/HIV dual infected patients(P<0.05).Conclusions MTB/HIV dual infection primarily occurred in males and patients aged 18-45 in Jingzhou,Hubei Province. In addition, the treatment outcomes for patients with this disease are influenced by factors such as the level of the initial medical institution, the presence of other tuberculosis infections, and severe disease, which required greater attention.
