Abstract:Objective Prior to the popularization of combined antiretroviral therapy(cART),people infected with type one human immunodeficiency virus(HIV-1)primarily suffered from AIDS-defining cancers, such as Kaposi's sarcoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, the incidence and mortality of AIDS-defined cancers have decreased significantly since cART was widely used, while non-AIDS-defined cancers such as breast cancer, liver cancer, and colorectal cancer have become the main causes of increased mortality in HIV-1 infected patients.Small cell carcinomais a malignant tumor originating from neuroendocrine cells, characterized by rapid growth, early spread, and poor prognosis, and is most common in the lungs and rarely occurs in the gastrointestinal tract.Small cell carcinoma of the colorectum is a rare type of colorectal tumor, accounting for less than 1%of all colorectal tumors, and its overall morbidity and mortality rate is extremely high. The national and international literature on small cell carcinoma of the rectum in combination with HIV-1 infection is very limited. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of a patient with HIV-1 infection combined with primary small cell carcinoma of the rectum and conducted a review of the relevant literature in order to provide new ideas for the diagnosis and treatment of this type of disease.
