Abstract:Streptococcus agalactiae is an opportunistic pathogen that can be transmitted through various routes, poses a significant threat to high-risk groups such as pregnant women, newborns, and the elderly, causing severe clinical illnesses and increasing morbidity and mortality rates. In recent years, the incidence of invasive disease in adults has also been on the rise.Currently, various ST types,CCs and ten serotypes of Streptococcus agalactiae have been identified. However, their prevalence varies among different populations and regions. Moreover,Streptococcus agalactiae has become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, with second-line antibiotics like erythromycin and clindamycin showing high resistance rates for an extended period.Penicillin-resistant strains have also emerged, making the clinical treatment of Streptococcus agalactiae more challenging. This paper aims to review the epidemiological research status and antibiotic resistance progress of Streptococcus agalactiae, providing insights into its transmission and resistance mechanisms and offering valuable references for effective prevention and control strategies.
