Analysis of clinical characteristics of 90 cases of monkeypox

Abstract:Objective To analyze the clinical features and outcomes of monkeypox patients at an infectious disease hospital in Beijing.Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical manifestations and laboratory results of 90 monkeypox patients who visited the outpatient and inpatient departments of Beijing YouAn Hospital,affiliated with Capital Medical University,from June to December 2023,to summarize their clinical characteristics.Results In this study,90 monkeypox patients were homosexual men.The incubation period ranged from 1 to 30 days.The primary clinical manifestations included fever,rash,and lymphadenopathy.The median value of procalcitonin(PCT)was 0.12 mg/mL,and the median value of(C-reactive protein)was 22.3 mg/L,both higher than the normal values.There were 2 fatalities.Conclusion Monkeypox predominantly affected homosexual men and was mainly characterized by fever,rash,and lymphadenopathy.Most patients had a good prognosis,but a very small number could progress to severe disease or even death.
