Clinical characteristics of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients in Shenzhen from 2018 to 2022

Abstract:Objective To understand the baseline characteristics of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients in Shenzhen from 2018 to 2022,and provide evidence for the prevention and control of AIDS.Methods Retrospective analysis of the clinical data of newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients treated at The Third People's Hospital of Shenzhen,a major healthcare facility for HIV/AIDS patients in Shenzhen,from 2018 to 2022,and summarizing their epidemiological characteristics.Results There were 8 881 newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS patients from 2018 to 2022,mainly aged 25 to 49 years(71.83%).The proportion of patients over 50 years old infected with HIV/AIDS increased from 8.05%to 11.89%.The education level was mainly junior college/bachelor's degree or above,and this proportion has been increasing year by year.The majority of patients were unmarried and this proportion has also been increasing annually.The main route of infection was homosexual transmission.The proportion of HIV-infected patients with CD4+ T cell count<200/µL at baseline decreased from 36.68%to 34.94%.The proportion of HIV-infected patients with HIV viral load 22 generally showed a downward trend;attention should continue to be paid to the 2 key groups,the elderly and adolescents;the proportion of unmarried and homosexual patients has been increasing annually;there are still great challenges in further improving the HIV testing rate among sexual partners/spouses and rapid initiation of treatment.200/µL at baseline decreased from 36.68%to 34.94%.The proportion of HIV-infected patients with HIV viral load<104 IU/mL at baseline increased from 6.18%to 10.88%.The ART start rate within 30 days of diagnosis among newly reported HIV/AIDS cases from 2018 to 2022 was 63.55%.The HIV testing rate among sexual partners and spouses of the 2 314 HIV-infected individuals surveyed was 58.56%.Conclusions The newly reported HIV/AIDS cases in Shenzhen from 2018 to 2022 generally showed a downward trend;attention should continue to be paid to the 2 key groups,the elderly and adolescents;the proportion of unmarried and homosexual patients has been increasing annually;there are still great challenges in further improving the HIV testing rate among sexual partners/spouses and rapid initiation of treatment.
