Epidemiological characteristics analysis of the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant infection in Gannan area

Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiology and clinical characteristics of patients with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)Omicron variant in Gannan region,and to provide evidence for prevention and control.Methods Collecting epidemiological and clinical data of 239 patients with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant treated in The Fifth People's Hospital of Ganzhou from September 6th to 26th,2022,and conducting a retrospective analysis.Results Among the 239 patients,there were 124 males(51.88%)and 115 females(48.12%).Most of them were young people and middle-aged people.The occupations were mainly self-employed.The clinical classification was mainly mild.The first symptoms were fever,cough and expectoration.Laboratory tests showed decreased percentage of lymphocytes and increased C-reactive protein.Seven infected patients showed changes in radiological features.The proportions of unvaccinated,1-,2-and 3-time vaccinated cases were 5.02%,1.67%,23.01%and 70.29%,respectively.Most of the unvaccinated cases were infants and young children,and middle-aged and elderly people with contraindications for vaccination.Conclusions The patients with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant in Gannan area were distributed across all ages,mainly in the young and middle-aged populations,and most of the infected patients were vaccinated.The clinical classification is mainly mild and lacking typical clinical features,which is easy to cause early occult transmission.
