Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiology of rotavirus (RV) diarrhea in preschool children and risk factors for the prognosis. Methods A retrospective study was conducted among children with RV diarrhea, at the age of 3-5 years old, who were inpatients or outpatients of Xichang People's hospital from January to December in 2017. Their epidemiological information was collected, and univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to determine factors influencing the prognosis of children. Results Among the included 80 children with RV diarrhea, the majority aged 3 years old. The onset of RV diarrhea mainly occurred in January (27.50%), February (17.50%), November (16.25%) and December (22.50%). Group A RV was the main virus causing such infection (88.75%). The most common genotype was G3P[8] (57.75%), followed by G9P[8] (22.54%). The healing rate was 66.25% and the nonhealing rate was 33.75% after treatment. The prognosis of children with RV diarrhea was not related to gender or central nervous system damage (P > 0.05), while it was related to age, course of disease, liver damage, myocardial damage and secondary intestinal bacterial infection (P < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that age, liver damage and myocardial damage were independent risk factors for the prognosis of children with RV diarrhea. Conclusions Group A RV is the main virus causing RV diarrhea in preschool children, and the disease mainly occurs in autumn, winter and early spring. Age, liver damage and myocardial damage are closely related to the prognosis of children with RV diarrhea.
