Research progress of identification of filamentous fungi by MALDI-TOF MS

Abstract：Invasive fungal infections are associated with higher morbidity and higher mortality in patients with hypoimmunity. The early diagnosis and treatment is essential for improving the treatment rate. Matrix-assisted laser-desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) technology realizes a rapid and accurate identification of fungi by detecting the fingerprint of specific ribosomal subunit proteins inherent in fungus. This paper reviews the research progress of MALDI-TOF MS identification of filamentous fungi in terms of technical principle, pretreatment of samples, identification effect and influencing factors.
