Abstract:Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is one of the main leading causes of chronic liver disease worldwide and its spectrum ranges from simple liver steatosis to alcoholic hepatitis and cirrhosis. Severe ALD can cause hepatic inflammation, hepatocellular damage, hepatic fibrosis and impaired liver regeneration, which likely requires combined therapies. In this paper, some identified therapeutic targets that inhibit inflammation, ameliorate hepatocyte death, and promote liver repair in ALD are reviewed.
