Abstract:Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) is a common bur fatal complication in patients who developed cirrhosis with ascites, and can induce a high mortality in the in-hospital patients. Delaying diagnosis and lacking appropriate and timely antibiotic therapy can increase the risk of mortality significantly. Therefore, reasonable application of ascites fluid analysis, serum-ascites examination and ascites etiologic detecting technique are critical for early diagnosis of SBP. This article reviews the progress of laboratory diagnosis of SBP.
