Abstract:Hepatitis C virus infection is one of the main causes of chronic liver diseases in the world and is an important reason for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. Interferon or pegylated interferon based antiviral therapy has eradicated the virus in a huge amount of hepatitis C infected patients, which has been known as sustained virological response for two decades. With the use of direct-acting antivirals, a further increase has been seen in the percentage of sustained virological response. In addition, due to low rate of side effects, direct-acting antivirals have been applied in more patients. This study reviewes the influence of sustained virological response to the occurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after chronic hepatitis C virus infected patients who are treated with different antiviral therapies.
