Abstract:Objective To identify and analyze clinical features of 8 imported malaria cases with 2 subtypes of Plasmodium ovale(P. ovale) infection. Methods The subtype identification of 8 imported malaria patients from January 2015 to March 2017 in Capital Medical University was conducted. Laboratory examination indexes were compared and analyzed in different P. ovale subtype infection. Results Nest PCR identification and sequence alignment results showed that 8 patients determined as P. ovale infection. Four cases were identified as P. ovale curtisi and 4 cases were P. ovale wallikeri infection, respectively. Furthermore, compared to the P. ovale curtisi infection, there were significant levels of laboratory examination indexes, including lower thrombocytopenia, higher lactic dehydrogenase and increased total bilirubin with P. ovale wallikeri infection. Conclusions The nest PCR amplification is necessary for identification of P. ovale subtype infection. Severe organ damages are observed with P. ovale wallikeri infection.
