Abstract:Abuse of traditional Chinese medicine is the most common risk factor of drug-induced liver injury in China. As the morbidity of hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome caused by"Tusanqi" is increasing gradually, the hepatotoxicity of pyrrolizidine alkaloids as the main component of"Tusanqi" has been paid more attention. In the current studies, the mechanism, clinical manifestation, natural course and therapy of hepatic sinusoidal obstruction syndrome induced by pyrrolizidine alkaloids have been explored and demonstrated. Furthermore, pyrrolizidine alkaloids shows its role as a liver tumorigenesis which is mediated by one of a common metabolic activation pathways via the metabolic product-DNA complex.
