Abstract:In the current situation of dramatic reduction in the prevalence of leprosy, lepra reactions (LRs) continue to be a major and persistent problem. Type 1 LRs and type 2 LRs are the main causes of nerve damage and permanent disabilities. In recent years, immunopathology of LRs has become an important research field, and it may provide the valuable targets for the early detection and control of LRs. There are no extensively accepted laboratory markers for LRs, therefore, a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in LRs may provide a reasonable strategy for early diagnosis and prevention of devastating consequences of LRs.
