Research advances in CD4+ T lymphocyte enumeration using two-color CD4/CD45 single-platform protocol in HIV-infected patients

Abstract：CD4+ T lymphocyte count is regarded as a major marker for evaluating disease progression and antiretroviral therapy efficacy in HIV-infected individuals. In this review, the authors introduce the development of CD4+ T lymphocyte enumeration using flow cytometry, and compare CD4/CD45 two-color single-platform protocol with other protocols in terms of accuracy, reliability and economics. CD4/CD45 two-color single-platform protocol is considered to be convenience, cheap and practical. In addition, the authors introduce specific characteristics and performance of various kinds of flow cytometers using CD4/CD45 two-color single-platform protocol for CD4+ T lymphocyte enumeration.
