Research advances in Middle East respiratory syndrome

Abstract:Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) is caused by MERS coronavirus (MERS-CoV). Most people who have been confirmed to have MERS-CoV infection develop severe acute respiratory syndrome, and the severe patients may progress to kidney fail-ure resulting in death. MERS was first reported in Saudi Arabia in 2012, and So far, all the cases have been linked to over 20 countries in and near the Arabian Peninsula, which poses a great threat to global public health. Research progress of MERS is summarized in this article, in order to provide evidence for early prevention and control of the occurrence and prevalence of MERS.
