Abstract:Objective To investigate the epidemiological features of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) epidemic in the northern region of Anhui Province from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2013, so as to provide evidence for making out prevention countermea-sures of HFRS for troops stationed and training in wild fields. Methods On-spot investigation, analysis of illness history and laboratory findings and reviewing of literatures were used to collect and analyze the epidemiological features, including the occurrence rate, the season of the onset and gender, etc. in HFRS patients in 6 cities of the northern region of Anhui Province from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2013. An investigation on serological epidemiology was carried by detecting HFRS IgG antibody using ELISA in healthy residents and healthy armymen stationed in the epidemic areas. Results The cumulative number of HFRS patients reported in the northern region of Anhui Province from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2013 was 642, and the cumulative death toll was 14. Inapparent infection rates in healthy residents in 2010, 2011 and 2012 were 6.42%, 7.14%and 7.69%, respectively, significantly higher than those in healthy armymen stationed (1.03%, 0 . 93% and 1 . 82%) (P<0.05). However, the inapparent infection rate was not significantly different between the two populations in 2013 (7.02%vs. 5.77%), when the armymen took increasing number of field trainings. Conclusions The occurrence of HFRS remains stable in the northern region of Anhui Province from Jan. 2010 to Dec. 2013, while the inapparent infection rates in healthy residents are high-er and the rate increased in the armymen stationed in the region in 2013. Therefore, precaution education should be enhanced among the armymen training in wild fields.
