Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical features of pulmonary infection in AIDS patients. Methods The data including clinical manifestations, laboratory findings, image findings and prognosis were analyzed. Results Bacterial pneumonia was found in 54 cases (46.6%), tuberculosis in 40 cases (34.5%), pneumocystis pneumonia in 14 cases (12.1%), penicillinosis marneffei in 3 cases (2.6%), cryptococcal pneumonia in 2 cases (1.7%), lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia in 2 cases (1.7%) and cytomegalovirus pneumonia in 1 case (0.9%). Twelve patients (10.3%) died in the hospital, and another 12 (10.3%) were discharged at a deteriorated status. Conclusions Pulmonary infection is the common opportunistic infection in AIDS patients. The complexity in the etiology complicates the diagnosis and treatment. Radiological findings may help in diagnosis. Prognosis is poor in AIDS patients with pul-monary infection especially when other complications occur.
