Application of pulsed-field gel electrophoresis to the diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases

Abstract:Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) is used as 'gold standard' in the epidemiological analysis of outbreak of in-fectious diseases, and is mainly applied in the study of epidemiology of bacterial infectious diseases and molecular subtyping. PFGE also has a good prospect in clinical diagnosis and treatment of related infectious diseases, source tracking and control of nosocomial infections and so on. This review focuses on the application of PFGE to clinical practice.
