Abstract:The complications of liver failure, including infections, bleedings, brain edema, hepatic encephalopathy, hepatorenal syndrome, hepatopulmonary syndrome and so on, are complex and diverse, and are the most direct and important factors causing death. Once liver failure is accompanied by one or more of the above-mentioned complications, secondary damages to other organs are likely to occur, and other organ damages, in turn, result in increased liver damage, which is a vicious circle of pathological progression. Eventually multiple organ failure will occur with a high mortality rate. So the management of the complications of liver failure has become the“thorny issue”in clinical practice. Active prevention and treatment of the complications of liver failure are critical in reducing the mortality and improving quality of life. To achieve this goal, it is still needed to find effective treatment methods and effective drugs, and to consider in a comprehensive way, therefore there is a long way to go for clinicians and researchers.
