Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and methods of prevention and treatment of neonatal early congenital syphilis. Methods Seventy-two neonates diagnosed with congenital syphilis were divided into a treatment group and an untreated group, according to whether they had received pregnancy syphilis therapy or not. The clinical data were analyzed retro-spectively. Results Clinical manifestations of neonatal early congenital syphilis varied. The incidence rates of premature birth, small for gestational age and organ damage in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the untreated group (P<0.05). Early use of penicillin in treatment of early congenital syphilis had a good effect. Conclusions Neonatal early congenital syphilis is caused by the vertical transmission. Its clinical menifestations vary, and neonatal congenital syphilis untreated during pregnancy has more severe clinical manifestations. Neonatologists need to improve awareness of the incidence of congenital syphilis and give aggressive treatment, so as to alleviate the condition and significantly improve the prognosis.
