Progress in genetically-modified animal models of viral hepatitis

Abstract:The global prevalence and spread of viral hepatitis pose a severe public health threat. The development of therapy strategies and preventive vaccines have to rely on appropriate animal models. This review focuses on the current knowledge about the relevant receptors for HCV and the development, usage, strengths and weaknesses of genetically-modified animal models. In addition, the future perspectives of the research of animal models are included.
