Abstract:The paper derives the unit discharge formula of a journal sliding bearing according to the theory of Couette flow between two concentric cylinders. Through experiments using air as media, the paper confirms the Sommerfield boundary conditions. That is the pressure in both maximum and minimum gap is equal to the surrounding pressure. Furthermore, the paper establishes the specific relation between sectional flux and coordinate pertaining respectively to bearings of infinite length and bearings of limited length. It opens out the possible maximum and minimum bearing capacities of the kind of eccentric bearings. For the first time, the paper puts forward the viewpoint that coordinates at the point of maximum pressure and minimum pressure, as well as the flux passing the section have functional relations with the relative eccentricity, and the pressure distribution is similarity between bearings of infinite length and bearings of limited length.
