Abstract:This study explores the effects of whey protein combined with exercise training on hemoglobin and iron metabolism-related indicators in male cyclists.Thirty-six male cyclists were evenly divided into four groups:non-training group,non-training+nutrition group, training group, and training+nutrition group.Blood cell indices, serum iron, serum ferritin, and serum transferrin were measured at 0,2,4,and 6 weeks after whey protein supplementation, with statistical analysis conducted using SPSS 22.0.Results showed that compared with the non-training group, blood cell indices decreased significantly in the training group but increased in the non-training+nutrition group.Serum iron levels declined in the training group, whereas they increased in both the non-training+nutrition group and training+nutrition group.Serum ferritin changes were similar across all groups except the training group:in the training group, serum ferritin increased significantly at 2 weeks and then gradually returned to normal, while serum transferrin levels in the training+nutrition group showed little change.Whey protein supplementation during exercise positively affects athletes' blood cell indices, resists reduced serum iron, inhibits elevated serum transferrin, and helps maintain hemoglobin and iron metabolism balance.
