Exploring Stylistic Features in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice
SUN Huabin
Abstract:A novel's linguistic style serves as a crucial vehicle for an author to convey ideas and perspectives. In Pride and Prejudice,Jane Austen employs four distinct stylistic strategies:vivid characterization through nuanced language, artistic irony and humor to critique social norms, dramatic dialogue to propel narrative tension, and concise, incisive prose to encode deeper ideological meanings. This analysis of Austen's linguistic artistry-focusing on her use of irony, dialogic vitality, and economical expression-aims to illuminate the novel's aesthetic sophistication and literary depth, offering the reader a nuanced understanding of how style shapes both character portrayal and thematic resonance.
